It’s February, so our thoughts turn to love. God’s love is different than what we are used to. Sometimes, love between humans has conditions – “I will love you as long as you do so and so,” or “ I will love you if you’ll stop doing that!” But, nether one of those are really love, are they?
God’s love is what we call “unconditional love.” It means He loves us without conditions. I want to share just a couple of verses to show you God’s unconditional love. Most people know John 3:16, which reads:
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life”
Look at that word “whosoever”! What does it mean? It means just what it says, that whosoever believes in Jesus Christ and puts his or her faith in Him shall not perish. Anyone can be a “whosoever”! He is ready to save all types of “whosoevers,” no matter your past, no matter your present. He is ready to save you from your sins, and show you the true love that only God’s unconditional love can show.
Think about this too. God knows everything about us – all the things we may think no one knows – and He loves us anyway. We do not have to worry about something from our past being “discovered” by God, because He already knows it. He knows us at our worst and loves us anyway.
How do we know that God’s love is not conditioned on anything we do, or any rules that we follow? One verse should answer that for you, and that is Romans 5:10, which reads:
“For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.”
I hope you get the full meaning of this verse. Christ died for us when we were enemies (sinners), but He died so that He could make us family and bring us back into fellowship with God. And if He did that, this verse basically says just imagine what He can do now that we are saved through Him.
Have you felt that kind of love? If you have never known of this kind of love or experienced it, join the Maple Grove Church Family and we continue to learn about God’s perfect love and experience that unconditional love every moment of our lives. We look forward to seeing you at Maple Grove.
