It’s September! Fall! Finally! Cooler days and nights are on the way! When I think about fall, I think about the leaves changing colors. Towards the end of this month, they’ll go from green to yellow, red, or orange. This is the one time of year I really notice the changing of the seasons. Which of course, makes me think about God. Why do the seasons change? Because that’s the way God planned it. Look at Genesis 8:22, where God promises to continue to bring seasonal changes at just the right time as long as the earth endures. Is God there in the sweltering heat of summer? Yes, He is. What about when the snow is on the ground. He’s there too. He’s always with us.
You know, we go through seasons in our lives just like we go through seasons of a year. Some are more pleasant than others. But God is with us in al the seasons of our lives. Remember that He wants us to trust Him through each and every season. And just like God will change the seasons of the year when it’s time, He will change the season of life we are in when it’s time – His time. The Lord brings different seasons in our lives to shape us, mature us, grow our faith, and make us more Christlike.
Turn to (and read) Ecclesiastes 3:1-8. “To everything there is a season…” Some of you may recognize this from a song the Byrds recorded in the 1960s called “Turn! Turn! Turn!” Pull that up on your music app (CD, cassette or vinyl) and listen (yes, even you younger folks – it’s a great song). You know why? Because the lyrics (except for the title and the final 2 lines) come straight out of Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, and they tell us that there is a time for everything – “a time for every purpose under Heaven.” There is a time for us to be in the fall with leaves changing and great weather, but there may be a time for us to be in the dead of winter. But here’s a promise the song never got to – God makes “everything beautiful in its time.” Ecclesiastes 3:11.
So, God is in all our seasons, and he makes them all beautiful for us – in His time. Trust Him. He will never leave you nor forsake you. Hebrews 13:5.
