“It’s Home Coming!!”

No, “homecoming” is normally not spelled like this, but I want to take this opportunity to emphasize that “homecoming” is actually made up of two concepts:

  • Home; and
  • Coming (which means coming back to…home).

So, to really understand “homecoming,” we need to look at what “home” is to be like – what it’s purpose is. We need to understand why God leads people away form the “home” churches, and why He wants them to “come home” every so often.  The story of “homecoming” is nothing less than a picture of the purpose of the Church and the goal of the Great Commission.  But, some do not understand the purpose of the Church, and its role in evangelism and the Great Commission.  That’s what we’ll look at this month as we celebrate Homecoming on Sunday, September 18th

Homecoming is our opportunity to see what God has been doing in the lives of those with whom the Church has interacted in the mission field. It is a time to see those brothers and sisters who have moved away, or who have been unable to attend for one reason or another, and reconnect with our Church family. We’ll worship together, praise the Lord through music and song, and share a traditional meal.

We hope to see you back at Maple Grove!  Come back Home!  If you do not have a church home, this would be an awesome day to make one!
